Many myopia enthusiasts who are initially opting for glasses may have a limited understanding of the knowledge of lenses when fitting them. Lenses are the soul of glasses, and if they are not familiar with the material of the lenses, they may hesitate when choosing glasses.

Today, we will introduce some knowledge about lens materials to everyone, so that whether you choose glasses offline or buy glasses online, you can easily buy the most suitable glasses for yourself.

At present, there are three common lens materials on the market: glass, PC, and resin.

1.glass

In daily life, many people’s understanding of glasses still lingers for a long time, thinking that the lenses of glasses are made of glass. In fact, glass lenses are indeed the earliest myopia lenses used, but the most commonly used lenses on the market are not glass lenses.

Advantages:

High hardness, wear-resistant and scratch resistant, with slightly higher clarity than lenses made of other materials. Moreover, glass lenses can be processed to achieve a high refractive index for use by patients with high myopia.

Disadvantages:

Due to material reasons, the weight is relatively large, which to some extent affects its wearing comfort and fragility, which makes many nearsighted people very worried. In addition, glass lenses are difficult to film and are mostly spherical, so they are rarely used.

2.resinous

Resin based lenses are currently the most commonly used lens material on the market.

Advantages:

Resin lenses are lenses made of organic materials. Lenses made of resin are lightweight and more comfortable to wear; And resin lenses have strong impact resistance, are not easily broken, and are safer to use.

In addition, resin lenses have good transparency and are easy to reprocess to meet special needs. Most importantly, they are cheap, making them the mainstream lens on the market.

Disadvantages:

Non wear resistance was once the biggest drawback of resin lenses. Therefore, when using resin lenses to manufacture glasses, it is often necessary to add a wear-resistant layer. Adding a hard film improves the disadvantage of non wear-resistant lenses, and with the continuous progress of technology, it will become closer to the surface hardness of glass lenses.

3.PC

Advantages:

PC is made of plastic material, which has the advantages of being light and easy to film; Moreover, it has great toughness and is not easily broken, so PC lenses are also called space lenses or cosmic lenses.

Due to its excellent impact resistance, PC lenses are often widely used in various sports glasses, such as basketball glasses.

Disadvantages:

Not wear-resistant; Easy to deform under force, not suitable for plastic and frameless frames; And the Abbe number is too low, of course, these can be improved through coating.
